Distribution Business Model: Know Which Model Is the Best Fit For Your Business

The fact has been established that distribution business is an extremely profitable affair given you have the perfect strategy chalked out to help reach you the perfect customer to promote and accelerate your business.

Now that the profitability has been identified, many entrepreneurs have started this business generating tough competition. The only thing that will make you and your business stand out is the way you conduct your business. Now, how do you make your business stand out? The answer is to bring to existence that one perfect business model to grow your business for good.

What Exactly Is a Distribution Model?

A distribution model is nothing but an intelligently figured out way to make the goods and services reach from manufactured to the end consumers in the best possible and efficient manner.

The primary purpose of a sales distribution model is to deliver these prepared goods from the manufactures to the target customer base in the most cost-effective way.

A distribution model includes many factors such as logistics, transportation, warehousing, storage, channel management, and inventory management.

What Are The Various Kinds of Sales Distribution Models?

Broadly there are three types of sales distribution models designed such as Intensive or mass distribution, selective distribution, and Exclusive distribution.

Mass/Intensive Distribution Model

This is the sales distribution model where the goods and services are designed to cater to a broader market or goods are produced for a very big number of people to consume.

Try to understand it this way, if there is a business giant who produces its goods and services on a very large scale can not cover the entire geography to make its products accessible to each and every potential customer.

Nestlé is producing its products which are consumed on a very large scale, it will need this mass distribution model to get associated with many intermediaries to make things happen.

Selective distribution Model

This is the kind of sales model where a manufacturer designs a plan to provide their goods or services to a select few clients or minted number of retailers.

Selective distribution models can give an impression that the limited number of clients could hamper the growth and survival of a business, however, dealing with a select few clients also come with a lot of advantages such as the control of distribution chains and training your distributors. To state an example, if there is a manufacturer that makes crackers and deals in pyrotechnics, it will have a limited number of clients or resources.

Exclusive Distribution Model

This is the kind of sales distribution model that is adopted by a select few organizations. In this type of distribution model, the manufacturer of a product or service chooses to associate with one distributor or one type of distributor.

One of the benefits that come with this model is that the manufacturer or producer has the upper hand or greater control when it comes to distribution. The best example would be Rolex Watches or iPhones.

You will struggle to make your business a success if you don’t build and operate your business on an existing model that suits your business. Now, with a clear picture of all these sales distribution models in front of you, try to do some research to figure out what is that one model that will help you scale more in less time.

Four Possible Threats That May Affect FMCG Sector In 2020

Who doesn’t know Fast Moving Consumer Goods or FMCGs? It is one of the sectors which have a strong position not just in India but also in the global economy. FMCGs are those products that deliver a short shelf life and a high rate of selling.

Thus, only FMCG retains many business opportunities. 2020 may have been the year of surprises and shocks, but it’s been a year of technology. This year will ramp up with technological transformation. Companies will be concentrating on more operational efficiencies basically, for slow consumption on the rural market. Platforms like retail intelligence will use the technology pack to use the data insight for meeting the production to use the balance. They’re a lot of attempts made to bring satisfaction among retailers and consumers.

While the market remains to grow at a rapid pace, the Indian Retailer gets a look at threats that may affect the FMCG industry. Let have a look at the threat faced by the FMCG industry.

The Threat of Getting Replaced

In the market, one product has more than five brands to cater to the consumer, and it’s very comfortable for them to choose or switch from one brand to another. Consequently, brand owners need to work on the strategic decision, price, and quality at the same time to cater to the audience.

Some products have a small difference between them. Therefore, it is not difficult at all for the user to take the decision changing them from regular product to another. Thus, the threat of getting replaces is real, and it cost us enough when the consumer does this. Hence, brand owners need to work on both an immediate and long-term plan for attracting buyers to stay with you.

Brand Rivalry

With changing time brand not only expanding themselves, but getting into new geographies with new categories to touch new modern retail market. We all are brands like Wipro, Patanjali, and many more are diversifying and expanding their product range to cater to each group with varieties. As we know, the FMCG industry is highly fragmented as more companies enter the market.

This brings huge competition and tough times for weak brands in the market to stand. They need to work on price with the product’s quality and great deals so that they can stand big competition.

Transaction Power of Buyers

Increasing incomes and young growing population have been key growth drivers of many sectors. With low-cost products attract customers to switch to other brands. Thus, the brand owner needs to cater to more demand with a new product range.

This can only be achieved only by a strong influencer of marketing strategies to get the consumer to stay with your brand. For sustaining, the customer brand owners need to reach a firm decision on how they stand up with cheap brands without losing the quality of the product and customer.

The Threat of New Players

Every new competition in any sector gives threats to any existing brands in the market. An investment plan approval by foreign equity in single-brand retail and 51% in multi-brand retail give new brands a chance to enter the market and results in making the market crowded and full of competition.

That also leads companies to spend aggressively on the adverts and other promotional plans that can hurt the brands in the long run

Every industry has it their kind of benefit and threats which, you need to cater to changing times. These threats will help you to quiver up the problem and help you to face them with the thought process.

Big Relief for MSMEs! Ahead of Diwali, Govt Waives Interest on Interest for Loans Up to Rs 2 Crore to Help MSME Borrowers Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

New Delhi, October 25: With the onset of the upcoming festive season, the government announced a major relief to borrowers. The Modi government on Friday announced waiver of interest on interest for loans up to Rs 2 crore irrespective of whether moratorium was availed or not. Reports inform that the Department of Financial Services came out with operational guidelines in the backdrop of Supreme Court’s direction to implement the interest waiver scheme. The scheme is likely to cost the exchequer Rs 6,500 crore.

MSME loans, housing loan, education loans, credit card dues, auto loans, consumer durable loans and consumption loans are covered under the scheme. Talking about the eligibility criteria mentioned in the guidelines, the accounts should be standard as on February 29 which means that it should not be Non-Performing Asset (NPA).

On October 14, the top Court had directed the Centre to implement the interest waiver on loans of up to Rs 2 crore  under the RBI moratorium scheme ‘as soon as possible’ in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The top Court said that the common man’s Diwali is in the hands of the government. As per the guidelines, the scheme can be availed by borrowers in specified loan accounts for a period from March 1 to August 31, 2020. “Borrowers who have loan accounts having sanctioned limits and outstanding amount of not exceeding Rs 2 crore (aggregate of all facilities with lending institutions) as on February 29 shall be eligible for the scheme,” it said.

As per the scheme, the lending institutions shall credit the difference between compound interest and simple interest with regard to the eligible borrowers in respective accounts for the said period irrespective of whether the borrower fully or partially availed the moratorium on repayment of loan announced by the RBI on March 27, 2020. The scheme is also applicable on those who have not availed the moratorium scheme and continued with the repayment of loans.

The lending institutions after crediting the amount will claim the reimbursement from the central government. Hearing the matter on October 14, the Supreme Court observed that it was concerned about how the benefit of interest waiver would be given to borrowers and said the Centre has taken a “welcome decision” by taking note of plight of the common man, but authorities have not issued any order in this regard.

A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan had said that ‘Something concrete has to be done’ adding that the benefits of waivers to borrowers up to Rs 2 crore must be implemented as soon as possible. The top court, which posted the matter for hearing on November 2, told the advocates appearing for the Centre and banks that “Diwali is in your hand”.

The Centre recently told the apex court that going any further than the fiscal policy decisions already taken, such as waiver of compound interest charged on loans of up to Rs 2 crore for six months moratorium period, may be “detrimental” to the overall economic scenario, the national economy and banks may not take “inevitable financial constraints”. The top court is hearing a batch of petitions which have raised issues concerning the six-month loan moratorium period announced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How To Let Goods And Services Tax Play To Its Strength To Support And Grow Your Business

The moment Goods And Services Tax was introduced back in 2017, it was met with mixed reaction from the nation. GST made some huge changes in the form of removal of VAT, excise, and service tax by absorbing them all in it and bringing down the overall cost of goods and services of a product. We all know nothing great has been ever achieved without a few challenges here and there and the same happened with GST reform as well.

Nonetheless, gradually GST has proven its mettle and convinced all of us that it is doing way more good than causing incontinence. In this article, we will be discussing the various benefits GST offers that can end up being in the favour of your business.

Convenience With Filing Returns

Earlier businesses, especially businesses that belonged to the MSME sector, used to face a lot of difficulty in tracking the number of taxes there were back such as excise duty, VAT, purchase tax, luxury tax, etc. Things were so complicated that a normal businessman without great knowledge in this domain would end struggling and hire an expert to crunch those numbers. Since GST has been introduced, filing returns has become easier than ever as businesses now have to take care of just 1 tax that has subsumed all other taxes.

Shipping Made Super Easy

With so many tax checks and different kinds of taxes, while shipping goods from one place to another, the process was extremely inefficient as it would increase the cost of transportation in terms of fuel and time.  The process was made much easier when the government removed the border checkpoints from the process when GST was introduced. Now with GST, the shipping has not only been made efficient but has been made less time consuming than ever.

Canopy Of Technology

There is a reason why technology is said to your best friend these days. With the help and backing of technology, many businesses are now getting to enjoy a much more convenient way to deal with their taxes. Yes, we are talking about the GST online portal. This online portal has made the process extremely easy where you are just required to get GSTIN to pay your taxes every month. Also, you need not worry about keeping all the paperwork safe, because it is automatically getting saved for you in your personal account. Amazing, isn’t it?

Put An End On Cascading Tax Effect

The Biggest relief and joy GST has brought into the lives of business owners and consumers is the elimination of the cascading Tax Effect. Cascading tax effect is the concept where good is taxed on each and every step of its creation which sums up to be a huge amount of burden, which the consumer bears in the end. GST put an end to this by introducing Input Tax Credit. ITC allows you to subtract the GST you paid to your vendors from the amount you owe to the government.

Sure, the GST might take you a bit to get familiar with, as it involves a great deal of technology and digitization, you will only thank the government later to have introduced this in the first place.

GST: Types Of Goods And Services Tax And Different GST Rates Across The Nation

In the simplest of words, GST can be defined as the value-added tax that is levied on the goods as well as services which are sold indigenously. GST is the expense that is taken care of by the end consumer and is ultimately remitted to the government by the businesses that sold the goods to the end consumers.

Now, there are basically 4 kinds of GST which we are listing below

  • The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST)
  • The State Goods and Services Tax (SGST)
  • The Union Territory Goods and Services Tax (UTGST)
  • The Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST)

Central Goods And Services Tax (CGST)

CGST is the tax that is levied by the central government on the transactions of Goods And Services that take place within the same starters, which is Intrastate transactions. The Tax is levied along with the other two taxes known as SGST. Please note that the revenue that is collected in the form of GST on intrastate transactions is shared equally between the state government and the central government.

State Goods And Services Tax (SGST)

Let’s now try and understand what SGST is. SGST is the tax levied by the state government over the transaction of the goods that are manufactured and sold within the same state. This Tax is levied along with CGST.

Union Territory Goods and Services Tax (UTGST)

UGST could be defined the same way as SGST, only it is applicable in the union territories. The only aim to introduce Union Territory tax is to provide the same benefits to all the businesses in a union territory that a business would enjoy in any state. The UTGST is applicable to five Union Territories namely Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Chandigarh.

Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST)

Now, this one is a bit different from others as it deals with the transaction of goods and services between two states. If any good or service is transacted from one state to another, there is a tax that will be levied on those transactions and it is called the Integrated Goods and Services Tax. IGST is also applied to goods and services that are imported and then distributed among various states.

Rates Of GST

There is a slab proposed by the government which is divided into 4 categories of GST rates applied to various kinds of goods and services. The rates are 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%.

  • 5% GST is for the goods that are included are the day-to-day household items like kitchen essentials such as sugar, spices, tea, coffee, edible oil, etc.
  • 12% GST would be applied to goods such as computers and processed foods are included like cheese, ghee, ayurvedic medicines, cell phones, and fertilizers, etc. Services like work contracts, business-class air tickets
  • 18% GST will be applied to products like jams, sauces, soups, ice cream, instant food mixes, mineral water, tissues, envelopes, tampons, notebook, steel products, printed circuits, camera, etc.
  • 28% of GST will be applied to various luxurious items.

It is important for each and everyone, be it a consumer or a businessman, to understand the concept of GST inside out in order to make the entire process more convenient with everybody being on the same page. We hope this article was of some help to enhance your information on various kinds of GST and the different rates that vary with the category.

Valuing of Time over Money

Being an entrepreneur, you have a mindset that tends to pay importance to time over money. But on the other hand, you tend to wait to deliver the right amount of money to start working on your dream. Being an employee, you invest in money, but being an entrepreneur, they invest in time.

Being an employee, you work for earning more money, but being an entrepreneur, you value time and always endeavour to invest more in it.

Handling Disappointment in Everyday Base

Being an entrepreneur tends to face some setbacks. As employees working for a couple of years, eventually routine catch up and let you lose focus easily, which results in being frustrated and let it take a permanent place in us. But being an entrepreneur, you won’t let frustration and setback permanent space at work.

Trusting Your Abilities and Skills

Being an employee, you believe you need to have specific skills for running the business, but as an entrepreneur, they take off with whatever they know and learn while running the business. As an entrepreneur, they incline to trust their abilities, and on the other hand, as an employee, they start doubting their abilities.

As an entrepreneur, you tend to have a leader’s skill on you, and as an employee, you tend to be a follower. It happens because an employee focuses on tasks assigned while entrepreneur, they go the extra mile and try to see the bigger picture.
